Hey all! It's Dalton from Spark Cinema Wedding Videography, based right here in St. Louis, Missouri. Today, I want to talk about a subject that's crucial for any bride planning her big day: how to get the most out of your wedding videographer. But this time, it’s from the perspective, of an actual Wedding Videographer. This guide aims to provide you with the insights you need to make informed decisions and ensure that your wedding video is everything you've dreamed it would be!
Why Videography?
You might be wondering, why is videography so important for a wedding? I personally used to tell couples how fast the day goes by when you get married, but I truly didn’t understand it until I get married myself last year. WOW. It goes by so much faster than I even thought! While photographs capture beautiful moments, videos encapsulate the emotion, the laughter, the music, and the atmosphere. It's about reliving your special day in its most authentic form. You’ll actually be able to take you and your fiancé back to the day. The Wedding Video we got after our wedding is something I wouldn’t trade for the world.
Questions to Ask Your Videographer
Choosing a videographer is a significant decision, and it's essential to get it right. Here are some questions you should consider asking potential videographers:
What is your videography style? (Some start slow and go fast, some prefer slow and romantic the whole time, others prefer a party vibe, always good to double check!)
Other articles have the question “Can I see some of your previous work?” But honestly, this should be step number one for you. It might sound simple, but always watch a few videos of a videographer before reaching out. If they’re not your style, then you’ll save both of you a call and a lot of your time!
What packages do you offer? Most Videographers have multiple different packages that tier up in pricing and include more as you go.
How long will it take to receive the final video? My timeframe is 6-10 weeks, but I’ve heard anywhere from one week to one year, so it’s best to double check and make sure you’re okay with the timeline.
Preparing for the Big Day
Preparation is key to ensuring that your wedding video goes smoothly. Discuss with your videographer about any moments you absolutely want to have that are outside of “normal” wedding day events (First dance, speeches, etc). The Videographer already knows to get all of these, but maybe your grandparents are really special to you, or you’re giving your aunt a special gift, those are the moments you want to make sure you tell your Videographer about. Coordination with other vendors, like your photographer and event planner, can also make a world of difference.
During the Wedding
On the day of the wedding, your videographer will be capturing the essence of your
celebration. Trust their expertise but also make sure to communicate any last-minute requests or changes. Make sure you let your videographer know what distance you’re comfortable with them being away during the ceremony.
After the Wedding
Once the celebration is over, the work of creating your wedding video begins. Depending on your agreement, you can expect to receive a short highlight reel, a longer edited version, or even raw footage. Make sure you know what to expect and when to expect it. When you receive your highlight film, don’t forget to make sure and let your Videography know what you think, especially if you love it. They just poured weeks of their time into it, so they will always appreciate the feedback.
Conclusion
In summary, getting the most out of your wedding videography requires a bit of planning, the right questions, and open communication with your videographer. The end result will be a beautiful, lasting record of one of the most important days of your life.
